Privacy Policy

We teach children, which means we hold information about children. This page explains exactly what we hold, why, how long for, and what you can ask us to do with it.

The Meta-Maths Method is operated by Meta-Maths Method LLC, Sharjah, United Arab Emirates.

This policy is written to be read rather than skimmed past. If anything here is unclear, email us and we will explain it properly.

1. Who we are

Meta-Maths Method LLC

Alf Collett, our founder, is responsible for data protection. Any question about your family's information comes to him directly.

2. What we collect

When you make an enquiry

Through the enquiry form on this website we collect your name, your email address, your phone or WhatsApp number, your child's first name, your child's school year, what brings you to us, and anything else you choose to tell us.

We ask for your child's first name and school year so that we can have a useful conversation with you. We do not ask for their surname, date of birth or school at this stage, and you should not send them.

When your child joins the programme

Once a child is enrolled we also hold:

  • Parent names, email addresses and contact numbers
  • Your child's first name, school year and learning pathway
  • Diagnostic and end-of-programme assessment results
  • Lesson by lesson notes covering what was taught, what went well and what comes next
  • Attendance
  • A signed parental agreement
  • Recordings of the live lessons your child attends

When you pay us

Payments are taken through Stripe. Card details go directly to Stripe and are never seen, handled or stored by us. We keep a record that a payment was made, for what, and when.

When you use this website

We collect standard technical information such as IP address, browser type, pages visited and how you arrived. This is used to understand whether the website is working, not to identify you.

3. Lesson recordings

Live lessons are recorded through Zoom. This matters enough to have its own section.

  • Recordings are kept for 10 days and then deleted. This is a fixed safeguarding rule and we do not make exceptions to it, including at a parent's request.
  • Each family can only access recordings of lessons their own child attended. Links are shared privately in your weekly email and are not published anywhere.
  • Because lessons are taught in groups of three to five, a recording will contain other children. We ask that you watch it within your own family and do not share, download, copy or repost it.
  • We do not keep transcripts. Where Zoom generates an automated lesson summary to help us write your weekly email, that summary is used and then discarded.
  • If you would prefer your child's lessons were not recorded, tell us and we will discuss what is possible. It may mean you do not receive recordings in your weekly email.

4. Why we use your information

We use it to reply to your enquiry and arrange a call, run the assessment and place your child on the right pathway, teach the lessons and plan what comes next, write your weekly feedback email, arrange the three parent calls across the block, take payment and keep proper business records, and tell you when the next block is starting.

We use it because you have asked us to teach your child and we cannot do that without it, because we have a contract with you, and because we are required to keep certain business records.

We do not sell your information. We do not share it with advertisers. We do not use your child's data to train any product, and we do not use it in our marketing.

If we ever want to quote you in a testimonial we will ask you first, in writing, and tell you exactly where it will appear. We only ever publish a parent's words attributed to a school year. Never a child's name, and never a child's photograph or video.

5. Who else touches your information

We use a small number of established services to run the business. Each one only receives what it needs.

ServiceWhat it handles
Google WorkspaceEmail, documents and lesson records
ZoomLive lessons and lesson recordings
ScaleTutorThis website, enquiry forms, booking and our customer records
StripePayments. Stripe holds your card details, we never do

We also work with tutors, all of whom hold a valid UK teaching qualification. Tutors see only the children they teach, and are required to keep everything about those children confidential.

We may be required to disclose information where the law compels us to, or where there is a genuine safeguarding concern about a child's welfare. Child safety comes before confidentiality, and always will.

6. Children's information

This is the part that matters most, so we will be direct about it. Almost every child we teach is under 13. We hold information about them because we cannot teach them otherwise.

  • We only ever deal with the parent or guardian. Enrolment, payment, agreements and all substantive communication go through you, not your child.
  • We collect the minimum. First name, school year, pathway, and what we observe about their mathematical thinking. We do not need their surname, address, date of birth or school, and we do not ask for them.
  • Your child's data is never used for marketing. Not ours, and not anybody else's.
  • We publish nothing about your child. No names, no photographs, no video, no work samples, unless you have given specific written permission for something specific.
  • Recordings go after 10 days. See section 3.
  • Assessment records and lesson notes are kept while your child is with us and for up to 24 months afterwards, so that if you return we can pick up where we left off. Ask us to delete them sooner and we will.

If you believe we hold information about a child that we should not, contact us and we will look into it straight away.

7. How long we keep things

WhatHow long
Enquiries that do not lead to enrolment12 months, then deleted
Lesson recordings10 days, then deleted
Automated lesson summariesUsed to write your weekly email, then discarded
Assessment results and progress recordsWhile enrolled, then up to 24 months
Parental agreements24 months after the final block
Financial recordsAs long as UAE law requires

8. Your rights

You can ask us to show you what we hold about you and your child, correct anything that is wrong, delete it where we are not required to keep it, send you a copy in a portable format, or stop emailing you about anything other than your child's active lessons.

Email [email protected] and we will respond within 30 days. There is no charge, and you do not need to give a reason.

9. Keeping information secure

We use established providers with their own security standards, restrict access to people who need it, and require tutors to treat everything about a child as confidential.

No system is perfect and we will not pretend otherwise. If something goes wrong that affects your family's information, we will tell you rather than hoping you do not notice.

10. Cookies

This website uses cookies to work properly and to help us understand how people use it. You can refuse non-essential cookies without losing access to anything that matters, and most browsers also let you block cookies entirely. We do not run advertising cookies on this website.

11. Links to other sites

We link to a small number of external pages, including our pathway guides, our lesson walkthrough video on Vimeo, and our booking pages. Once you are on somebody else's website their privacy policy applies, not ours.

12. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy we will update the date at the top. If a change is significant we will email families who are currently enrolled, rather than leaving you to spot it.
